TOWSON, Md. – A 56-game slate that features 27 home games highlights the 2018 Towson University baseball schedule that was released Thursday.
“Our staff has put together a very, very competitive schedule that features six teams that reached the NCAA Tournament last year,” said first-year head coach Matt Tyner. “As a team we feel it necessary to challenge ourselves with the best competition that we can schedule. The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) is a very competitive conference and with our strong nonconference schedule we feel it prepares us for the grueling race.”
The Matt Tyner era will officially get underway Feb. 16 when the Tigers travel for a three-game series against New Mexico State. The opening road swing continues the following weekend (Feb. 23-25) when Tyner returns to face his former team, the Richmond Spiders.
Fans will have ample opportunity to catch the Tigers in the month of March as Towson will play 15 of its 20 games at Schuerholz Park. The Tigers will host weekend series against Albany (March 2-4), Ohio (March 9-11), Marist (March 16-18), Delaware (March 23-25) and Hofstra (March 30-April 1). Towson will host UMBC in a midweek contest on March 14.
The month of March also includes road games at George Mason (March 7), Delaware State (March 13), Virginia (March 20-21) and George Washington (March 28).
The Tigers will be on the road for the majority of April as they have road series at William & Mary (April 6-8), The Citadel (April 13-15), UNCW (April 20-22)) and Northeastern (April 27-29). The lone home games during the month are against Coppin State (April 11), Maryland Eastern Shore (April 17) and Delaware State (April 18).
Towson opens the month of May with a pair of midweek home games against George Washington (May 1) and George Mason (May 2), before closing out the five-game home stand against the College of Charleston (May 4-6). After a game at Maryland on May 9 and a three-game series at Elon (May 11-13), the Tigers close out the regular season at home against James Madison May 17-19.
The 2018 CAA Tournament will be played May 23-26 on the campus of James Madison.
