ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis baseball head coach Darin Hendrickson has added volunteer assistant Will Schierholz to the Billikens’ coaching staff.
Schierholz will oversee the pitching staff for the Billiken baseball program. He comes to SLU from Miami (Ohio), where he served as the volunteer assistant for the 2017 season. Schierholz worked with the pitching staff and outfielders for the RedHawks. On game days, he served the Redhawks’ first base coach. As a part of the Miami staff, Schierholz assisted with on-campus recruiting, while also working as the camp director.
Prior to Miami, Schierholz was an assistant coach at Jefferson College for the 2016 season. He helped the Vikings to a 41-18 record and a top-25 national ranking. Schierholz helped develop the pitching staff which included two pitchers who were ranked as top-500 MLB draft prospects. Overall, Schierholz was instrumental in the development of 21 athletes who moved on to four-year institutions for the 2016-2017 school year.
Schierholz was a pitcher at Butler and Miami (Ohio). He pitched for the Butler Bulldog baseball team from 2011-14, leading the Bulldogs in ERA, appearances, wins and batting average against in 2014. Schierholz moved on to Miami (Ohio) in 2015 as a graduate transfer, where he led the team in ERA, appearances, saves and batting average against. In addition to his baseball prowess, he was a quarterback on the Butler football team from 2010-12.
After Schierholz’s collegiate playing career, he went on to play professionally for the River City Rascals, a member of the Frontier League. He posted a team-best 2.67 ERA over 44 appearances for the Rascals in his rookie campaign in 2015. In two seasons, Schierholz had an 8-3 record and a 2.96 ERA in 85 appearances for the Rascals.
