The head baseball coach for Clemson University, in Greenville, South Carolina, has had his contract extended through to June of 2023. Coach Monte Lee will be earning a minimum of US$2.85 million over the course of the next six years, thanks to a one-year extension to the tune of US$500 000 of his existing contract that was passed by Clemson trustees last Thursday.

Lee’s Exceptional Work to be Rewarded

As punters who enjoy the Australian betting sites that offer markets for baseball know full well, Lee’s work with the Clemson University team has been remarkable. This sentiment was stated by the university’s athletic director, Dan Radakovich, who said that they were very appreciative of the remarkable work Lee had done. He then added that in an effort to keep Lee on the job, an additional year had been added to his contract.

Details on Lee’s Annual Compensation

Clemson University provided information on what Lee’s annual compensation would look like over the next six years:

  • From 2017 to 2108, Lee would receive US$450 000
  • From 2018 to 2019, this would rise to US$460 000
  • Another US$20 000 would be added, to make US$480 000 from 2020 to 2021
  • Another US$20 000 would then be added, paying Lee US$500 000 from 2021 to 2022
  • A ceiling of US$500 000 would then reached for his compensation for the period from 2022 to 2023

Lee will also be receiving a complimentary country club membership, and is provided with a car, and while he may not be in the same league as the world’s richest soccer players, he isn’t doing too badly!

A Range of Incentives Provided for As Well

The new contract also provides for an array of incentives for Lee. For example, if the Clemson Tigers win the NCAA World Series, Lee gets a bonus to the tune of US$80 000. He will also be earning an additional US$15 000 if season ticket sales reach a total of 2 500, and another US$15 000 if the sales for season tickets manage to rank on the list of the Top 10 in the USA.

For each ACC Tournament that the Clemson Tigers manage to win, Lee will earn a bonus of US$2 500, up to a maximum of US$10 000, or four wins. He will also get an extra US$10 000 if his team manages to take the ACC Championship home.

A wonderful contract, to be sure, but well earned when one reviews what Lee has done for the Tigers. This renewal has been extended after Clemson University has enjoyed its second straight regional host season, as well as its second straight season of 40 wins, a first for the Tigers since the 2010/2011 season.

Under the coaching of Lee, the Tigers managed to rank in the Top 25 of every single poll of the 2017 season, and even reached as high as Number Three, thanks to the one of the best starts in the university’s history. The teams’ 3.93 strikeout-to-walk ratio is the best in the United States, while it’s 2.26 walks-per-nine-innings-pitched was the second-best. Attendance has also remained very high this year, with the university averaging 4.625 fans-per-home-date, a total of 39, which is not only the eleventh highest figure in the USA, but the highest in the ACC.
