Coming in at number 93 on the top 100 countdown is right-handed pitcher Hunter Parsons from Maryland.

The 6-foot-3, 200 pound junior was drafted in the 40th round of the 2015 MLB Draft by the Cleveland Indians, but made the good decision to go to college first.

In his freshman year at Maryland he appeared in 15 games (5 starts) and had a 3.50 ERA in 36 innings with 28 strikeouts, 13 walks and 27 hits.

He followed that up with an impressive showing in the Cal Ripkin League that summer where he had a 1.41 ERA in 9 games (7 starts) with 44 strikeouts in 38.1 innings pitched, while allowing 36 hits and just 7 walks.

His sophomore season at Maryland didn’t go quite as great. He posted a 12.05 ERA in 12 games (4 starts). He did strikeout over a batter an inning with 24 punchouts in 21.2 innnigs. But he gave up a whopping 41 hits.

Those struggles continued in the Cape Cod League this past summer as he had a 6.75 ERA in 13 games with 12 strikeouts in 14.2 innings pitched, allowing 15 hits and 6 walks.

He only gave up runs in five of his 13 outings, but gave up multiple runs in four of those five outings.

Here is a video of Parsons from the Cape:

He features a fastball in the upper 80’s/low 90’s and a change-up in the upper 80’s. He has a long, over-the-top delivery, which can tip is hand to the batter.

He’s never really had a problem with accuracy, put he probably needs to develop a third pitch if he wants to be a starter. Otherwise he’ll most likely become a relief pitcher for Maryland this year.
