Hempstead, NY – Hofstra University Head Baseball Coach John Russo today announced the appointment of Brandon Stein as the Pride’s volunteer assistant coach. The move completes the Pride’s 2017-18 coaching staff, which includes third-year Assistant Coach John Habyan and the recently hired Matt Wessinger.

“I have known Brandon Stein for several years and have always been impressed by his baseball knowledge and work ethic,” said Russo. “I think he will be an excellent coach on the college level and a great addition to our staff.”

Stein, who was a three-year starter at catcher for SUNY-Old Westbury, has a good deal of experience coaching at the youth level. He has served as an instructor/catching specialist at the New York Baseball Academy since 2013. Stein has also served as a head coach for several different youth travel teams including the Long Island Hellcats, the Blue Collar Bulldogs and the Long Island Red Dogs.

During his tenure at Old Westbury, Stein played in 108 games. He served as team captain as a senior in 2015 and helped the Panthers to a Skyline Conference championship with a .320 batting average, three doubles, two triples and 11 RBIs.

A native of Plainview, New York, Stein graduated from Old Westbury in 2017 with a degree in criminology.
