Although the Major League Baseball Draft for 2017 is still ongoing, the 30 teams that make it up are also starting to prepare for 2018’s class. Mock drafts for next year are meant to serve as an indicator for where the best prospects currently stand.
While a lot will change over the next year, with players’ standings falling due to things like injuries, poor performances, or other prospects rising with a sudden upshot of fastball velocity or surges in power, the current crop of players have one year to solidify their status, and Brice Turang, of Oakland Athletics/Santiago High School, in California, is listed as a shortstop at the number five position.
Turang a Favourite to Head the Draft
As things currently stand, Turang is the favourite for headlining the Draft for 2018. Evaluators have declared him better than Royce Lewis, except in terms of hitting power, and compared him to Christian Yelich, with a similar swing, but with more speed, and the added bonus that he is able to perform well as a shortstop too.
Brice has mixed opinions swirling around him throughout the world of baseball. Some love his tools and overall game, and others question his ability and wonder how much genetics has to do with his level of play. He is going to have to work hard in order to prove he is worthy of being a top pick, but rumour has it that he’s doing that anyway! Punters who enjoy the NZ betting baseball markets are rooting for him, but only time will tell if he has what it takes.
Turang Headed for Louisiana State University
Brice Turang has committed to attending Louisiana State University, adding his talent to the Tigers’ recruiting class of 2018. Turang has the rave reviews, enviable bloodlines, and good-enough tools to produce an impressive list of college recruitment attempts, and LSU managed to come out on top.
Turang has spoken of how incredible LSU is, citing their campus, facilities, and coaching staff as perfection embodied. He added that he was very grateful for the opportunity the university was giving him to play, and thanked God for blessing him in the sport he loved.
Turang is One of the Best
At six feet and 155 pounds, Brice Turang is a left-handed hitting prospect, running true 4.0 times down the line, and presenting clean and fluid actions when on the field. He does so whilst managing to maintain a rhythmic, fundamentally strong, fast swing, and evaluators and recruiters are sure that Turang will be sticking to the shortstop position.
There is however, concern that Turning may well not see a single pitch on the college baseball field, and never actually reach the Baton Rouge campus, thanks to the fact that it looks very likely that he will be one of the top prospects for the 2018 draft. For now, however, LSU looks forward to claiming this shortstop, one of the top underclassmen from high school in the USA.
The future looks bright for Brice Turang and you never know, he may make it in the big leagues and onto a baseball card in the future. For now, it looks like it is all up to him, with his hard work and future decisions determining which way his career as a baseball player ends up going.
