ATLANTA — Steve Rosen has been named an assistant coach for the Georgia State baseball team after spending last year as the program’s graduate assistant, head coach Greg Frady announced Monday.
A former collegiate catcher, Rosen will work with the Panthers’ catchers while coaching first base and assisting with hitting instruction.
“I am excited to elevate Steve Rosen to a coaching position with Georgia State baseball,” Frady said. “He is a promising young coach who brings unique experience to our organization, and he earned this opportunity with the hard work and baseball knowledge that he showed last year.”
Rosen has significant experience in professional baseball after serving as a video operations intern with the Trenton Thunder, the New York Yankees Double A affiliate, in 2014-15. During that stint, the Trenton roster featured numerous current Major League players, including Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez, Luis Severino and Tyler Austin.
Rosen operated the Trackman system and worked with the coaches, staff and players to provide unique data to improve player evaluation and development.
Following his internship with the Thunder, he attended Major League Baseball Scout School in the fall of 2015, becoming a certified MLB scout.
Rosen also served as a basketball operations intern with the New York Knicks and then worked as a site leader and camp director for the Atlanta Braves Headfirst Summer Camps in 2016.
In the summer of 2017, Rosen was a head coach with Atlanta-area travel baseball program Team Elite.
“I could not be more thankful to Coach Frady and Georgia State University for this opportunity,” Rosen said. “This is an extremely exciting time for Georgia State, and when I saw the commitment and dedication from every single student-athlete and coach within the baseball organization last year, I wanted nothing more than to continue to be a part of it.”
The New Jersey native won a state championship at Morris Knolls High School and then lettered at catcher for the College of New Jersey, where he earned his undergraduate degree in English in 2016. He is pursuing a master’s degree in Georgia State’s J. Mack Robinson College of Business.
