WASHINGTON – George Washington baseball head coach Gregg Ritchie has announced that Bobby Campbell ’17 and Troy Marrow have joined the Colonials’ coaching staff.
Campbell will serve as the Director of Baseball Operations while Marrow will be a volunteer assistant coach.
Campbell recently concluded a standout four-year career for the Colonials last May by being named an American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-East Region Second Team selection following his senior season.
He was the team’s Most Valuable Player after ranking fourth in the A-10 with a .355 batting average, as well as career-high and team-leading totals of eight home runs, 43 RBI and 15 doubles. He also finished his playing career ranking second all-time in games played (218), fourth in at-bats (806), seventh in doubles (49) and eighth in hits (249).
“This program is a family and anytime that I can help a former player take the next step in their professional career I am happy to do so,” said Ritchie. “Bobby just concluded a fantastic career and we are lucky to have him on board in a leadership position for this season. He is respected in the clubhouse and we have seen that he is an effective leader and someone our current student-athletes can look up to and learn from. His presence will help continue to elevate our program while building on our tradition of pride.”
Marrow comes to GW following a two-year stint as a Graduate Assistant at his alma mater, North Carolina Central University. In the past year he has also served as the Director of Operations for USA Baseball’s 18U National Team as well as the 17U National Team Development Program.
The Lutherville, Maryland, native was an All-MEAC performer and an ABCA/Rawlings All-Atlantic Region pick as a sophomore in 2012. He appeared in 174 games over his career at NCCU and batted .269 during his tenure with 103 RBI.
“Troy is a great addition to our staff and will be a superb mentor to our players,” said Ritchie. “He was an All-Conference infielder at North Carolina Central and went into coaching right after graduating where he excelled as a graduate assistant coach. He has a diverse skill set as a player and as the Director of Operations for USA Baseball where he helped shape the young men that comprise a number of national teams. This is the next step in his coaching career and we are happy to have him on board to help develop our student-athletes as players and high-quality young men.”
