An incoming freshman player at Cumberland College broke his neck in a swim accident last Thursday.

A recent Ocean City High School graduate and standout athlete was injured last week, just weeks before he was planning to start his college sports career.

A Facebook GoFundMe account was set up for 19-year-old Matt Fumo, who was injured swimming with friends near the Ocean City-Longport Bridge.

Ocean City fire Chief James P. Smith said the Fire Department responded to the call about an injury at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Ocean City police also responded for traffic and crowd control, according to police Capt. Steven Ang.
