Arkansas State named Guarno as Assistant Coach

JONESBORO, Ark. (7/21/17) – Arkansas State head baseball coach Tommy Raffo announced the hiring of Rick Guarno, previously of UT Martin, as an assistant coach Friday afternoon.

Guarno most recently served as the hitting coach and recruiting coordinator for the Skyhawks for the past three seasons, which coincided with some of the best seasons in school history. UT Martin won 30 Ohio Valley Conference games during his tenure for the most OVC wins in a three-year span in school history. Last season, UTM won 25 games, which were the most in the Division-I Era (since 1992) for the program and qualified for the OVC Tournament for just the third time in school history.

Charges filed in Zack Finch Murder

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte Mecklenburg Police charged a 15-year-old Friday with the murder of a 21-year-old college baseball star.

Zack Finch, a star on and off the baseball field at the University of Cumberland, was shot and killed in June on Father’s Day after what was being called a deal set up online gone bad.

Eureka names Jerry Rashid as Head Coach

Jerry Rashid, who has won more than 800 games in 39 seasons as a high school coach, has been named head baseball coach at Eureka College.

A member of the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, Rashid has 807 career victories between Illinois Valley Central (2005-17), Peoria Notre Dame (1989-04) Bergan (1986-88) and Princeville (1979-85). He ranks sixth all-time on the Illinois High School Association coaching wins list.
