Cory Barton added to Louisiana Tech Coaching Staff
RUSTON, La. — On Thursday morning, Louisiana Tech head baseball coach Lane Burroughs announced that Cory Barton will join the baseball staff for the 2018 campaign.
Barton will serve as the pitching coach for the Bulldogs after guiding the McNeese baseball program to one of the best seasons in its history.
“This was a very important search and hire and we did our due diligence,” Burroughs noted. “We essentially had a short list and Cory was at the very top. He checked all the boxes that we were looking for. We needed an outstanding man that has integrity and character. We want to surround ourselves with men above reproach. This is important when you are building a program and establishing a culture.”

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Previously a head coach at four universities, Greg Goff has joined Purdue baseball as an assistant coach, completing Mark Wasikowski’s staff for the 2017-18 school year.
Wasikowski and Goff have been friends since both were assistant coaches under Mark Hogan at Southeast Missouri State in the late 1990s, helping lead SEMO to its first Division I Regional appearance in 1998 as the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament champions.
Goff has served as the head coach at Campbell University (2008-14), Louisiana Tech University (2015-16) and the University of Alabama (2017) as well as Division II University of Montevallo (2004-07).
Former Southern Miss Star climbing in White Sox Organization
BILOXI-There’s just something about being around family for Mason Robbins.
The former George County slugger was back on the Coast this past weekend as a member of the visiting Birmingham Barons. His swing through South Mississippi just so happened to coincide with a 11-game hitting streak, his longest of the season.
During the five-game visit, the former Rebel and Southern Miss standout was 6-for-21 with four RBIs and just one strikeout. In nine career games against the hometown Biloxi Shuckers, Robbins is hitting .286 (10-for-35).
Bunch arrives in Georgetown following 11 seasons as assistant coach at Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) rival Trinity. Since 2015, he also served as the recruiting coordinator for the Tigers, who won the 2016 NCAA Division III National Championship.
“We are excited to enter into this new era of Southwestern baseball as we welcome Coach Bunch and his family to Southwestern,” said Dr. Munt. “Coach Bunch has an exceptional knowledge of baseball and combined with his strong ties in Texas we are confident he will usher SU back to prominence within the conference and nationally.”
