ELKVILLE, Ill. – The Prospect League’s premier players are ready to showcase their skills in front of professional scouts at the league’s annual All-Star festivities Monday, July 17. The all-star players participating in the two showcases were selected by the respective Prospect League managers and field staff.
Players from Danville, Kokomo, Lafayette, Quincy, Springfield and Terre Haute will participate in an All-Star Showcase hosted by the Kokomo Jackrabbits at Kokomo Municipal Stadium in Indiana.
“The work that John Perszyk, Dan Kuenzi and the rest of the Kokomo staff have done to ensure the quality of this event for the players, fans, and scouts is incredible,” said Prospect League Commissioner Dennis Bastien. “It will be a first-class event for everyone involved.”
Selected players from Butler, Champion City, Chillicothe and West Virginia will participate in an All-Star Showcase hosted by the West Virginia Miners in Beckley, W.Va., at Linda K. Epling Stadium. “Doug and Tim Epling, Jim Holland, Nick Cuozzo and the rest of the West Virginia Miners staff have worked tirelessly to make this All-Star Showcase a top-notch event that will allow some of the Prospect League’s best players to show their skills to professional baseball scouts,” said Bastien.
“We are proud to be able to showcase our premier players for the benefit of additional exposure to Major League scouts and our fans,” Bastien added. “Having 31 players drafted in the recent MLB Draft with Prospect League experience reflects the stature of our league. It is with great pride that these two events take place Monday in Kokomo and Beckley, our West and East hosts for this special event.”
In the evening, Kokomo will host a Home Run Derby that is open to the public. Gates open at 5 p.m. at Kokomo Municipal Stadium for a Celebrity Home Run Derby at 6 p.m. Select Prospect League players compete at 7:05 p.m. For more information and to purchase tickets, go to www.kokomojackrabbits.com.
The West Virginia Miners are also having a Home Run Derby among the Prospect League players attending the Beckley, W. Va., showcase at 5 p.m. Monday, July 17 at Linda K. Epling Stadium. The event is open and free to the public to attend.
Following the conclusion of the Prospect League regular season in early August, a traditional Post-Season All-Star Team will be announced.
