The USA Collegiate National Team picked up a 2-1 victory over Japan on Wednesday evening at Dunkin Donuts Park in Hartford, Connecticut. The USA offense struggled throughout the game but came alive in the bottom of the ninth trailing 1-0 to the Japanese squad. Andrew Vaughn started a rally in the bottom of the ninth with one out with a single to center. After being lifted for a pinch runner, Cadyn Grenier hit a ball into the left-center field gap which Japanese center fielder Ryosuke Tatsumi wasn’t able to catch allowing the USA squad to put runners on second and third with only one out.

USA coach John Savage decided to lift Jake McCarthy and put Tyler Frank at the plate instead. Frank promptly hit a ball back up the middle which blooped into center field allowing both runners to score and give the USA squad the 2-1 victory.
