The Teenessean recently wrote an article about how Vanderbilt returns to the College World Series which they appeared three times between 2011-2015 seasons but over the last two seasons have been sitting home instead of Omaha in late June.
Vanderbilt had a tough potential path to the College World Series this year. It had to win on the road in the Clemson Regional and played at Oregon State, the No. 1 overall seed, in the Super Regional. Consider that its three previous trips to Omaha included all three Regionals and two Super Regionals at home.
The Commodores need to post a better nonconference record to beef up their resume and therefore host more games. For the first time in Corbin’s 15-year tenure, Vanderbilt failed to sweep a single weekend series in the regular season. He called it “consistently inconsistent (because) there were never dips or peaks — just win two, lose one, win two, lose one.”
