HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Mississippi State baseball team was taken to the brink before advancing in the Hattiesburg Regional Sunday afternoon.
Behind a strong start from Konnor Pilkington, second-seeded MSU held on late for a 5-4 victory against fourth-seeded Illinois-Chicago at Pete Taylor Park.
MSU (37-25) will now advance to face the loser of the Southern Mississippi-South Alabama contest at 6 p.m. Sunday. That contest will be available on ESPN3.
Game 4: Southern Miss 8 South Alabama 3
HATTIESBURG – Taylor Braley’s solo home run in the fifth inning was big for Southern Miss.
Tracy Hadley’s home run three batters later was even bigger.
The two powered a four-run surge that helped lift the top-seeded Golden Eagles to an 8-3 victory over third-seeded University of South Alabama as Southern Miss seized control of the Hattiesburg Regional.
The victory before 4,237 sent Southern Miss (50-14) into a 1 p.m. game Monday as the sole undefeated team in the regional at Pete Taylor Park.
