Game 1: Texas Tech 5 Delaware 2
LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 5 Texas Tech baseball team opened postseason play with a 5-2 victory over Delaware in the first game of the 2017 NCAA Lubbock Regional on Friday afternoon at Rip Griffin Park.
After an hour and 40-minute weather delay, the Red Raiders (44-15) rattled off five runs on seven hits to roll past the Blue Hens (34-22) to move into the winner’s portion of the bracket. Tech will take on the winner of Arizona/Sam Houston State at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
Senior infielder Hunter Hargrove and freshman catcher Michael Berglund each recorded multi-hit bids in the win, while junior infielder Orlando Garcia and sophomore outfielder Cody Farhat tallied two RBI. Garcia scored three times in the regional opener.
Sophomore right-hander Davis Martin got the start for the Red Raider, but his outing was shortened due to the delay. The San Angelo native would only go 1.1 innings, throwing deuces in three categories behind two strikeouts, two walks and two hits. After the break, freshman righty Caleb Kilian took over on the mound with two on and one out. He would need only one pitch to get out of the frame, inducing a 4-6-3 double play to bring up the Red Raider bats.
