BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB baseball team has announced its schedule for the upcoming season. The Blazers play 56 regular season games over the course of three and a half months across seven different states. This will be UAB’s 39th season of competition and the 11th under head coach Brian Shoop.
UAB opens the season at Regions Field with a series against Creighton Feb. 17-19. It’s the second straight year the two play a three-game series, last year’s occurring in Omaha, Neb.
The Blazers then play a home-and-home against Alabama State, the SWAC representative in the NCAA Tournament last season. The first game will be at Regions Field on Feb. 21 followed the next day with a game in Montgomery, Ala.
UAB plays at Regions Field for four straight games from Feb. 24-28 for a three-game series versus Valparaiso and one contest against Troy.
The first road series for the Blazers is against Georgia. They will travel to Athens, Ga., on March 3-5 to face the first of three SEC foes on the schedule.
The Blazers then play home-and-home against Alabama A&M March 7-8 followed by a three-game series against Louisiana-Monroe back at Regions Field.
The next four games are on the road, including a three-game series at WKU to open the Conference USA slate from March 17-19. That series is preceded by a game at Auburn on March 14.
The Blazers then square off with another SEC foe, this time with Alabama at Regions Field on March 21 before hosting No. 28 Florida Atlantic, an NCAA Tournament team last season, for the first conference home series of the season March 24-26. UAB faces Samford at home on March 28 to closeout the longest homestand of the season.
The Blazers take their talents down to South Beach for a series against FIU March 31-April 2. They stay on the road for a game at Jacksonville State on April 4 before hosting the Gamecocks the next day at Young Memorial Field, the first game of the year at the on-campus field.
Marshall then comes to town for a series April 7-9 before the Blazers go on an eight-game road trip. That trip begins in Tuscaloosa, Ala., for the second meeting of the year with the Crimson Tide on April 11 before heading to Middle Tennessee April 13-15. UAB then plays at Troy on April 18 before finishing the stretch away from home against No. 27 Louisiana Tech, another NCAA Tournament participant last season, April 21-23.
The Blazers take four days off until a home series against Charlotte April 28-30. They then travel to nearby Samford on May 2 before hosting Old Dominion May 5-8. Auburn then comes to Regions Field for the final game at that ballpark on May 9.
UAB and No. 25 Southern Miss renew the most-played series in Blazers school history May 12-14 in Hattiesburg, Miss. The series reached exactly 100 games last season as the Blazers took two out of three games against the eventual Conference USA Tournament champions.
The Blazers conclude their regular season against perennial power No. 26 Rice. The two squads play May 18-20 at Young Memorial Field.
The Conference USA Tournament is hosted by the Golden Eagles this year in Biloxi, Miss., at MGM Park. The top eight teams in the conference make the tournament, which will be held May 24-28.
