TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Fourth year head coach Mitch Hannahs has announced Indiana State’s 2017 baseball schedule which includes a total of 50 games, as the Sycamores are coming off a 35-21 last season. The competition will be stout throughout, as ISU will battle with the four NCAA tournament teams from a year ago as well as the always tough Missouri Valley Conference slate.
Coming off its eighth consecutive winning season, the Sycamores will play 13 games against NCAA tournament qualifiers from 2016, highlighted by Mississippi State, Utah Valley, Washington as well as Dallas Baptist.
The squad will play their first 16 games away from Terre Haute as they open the 2017 campaign Feb. 17th in Clarksville, Tenn. at the Austin Peay Invitational. ISU will take on MVC foe Illinois State to kick things off followed by games against Youngstown State and the host Governors over the following two days.
The Sycamores will then head south to Starkville, Miss. for a pair of games each against Mississippi State and Marist Feb. 24th and 25th at historic Dudy Noble Field. MSU finished last season with a record of 44-18 and a 21-9 SEC mark after making a deep run into the NCAA Tournament, advancing to a Super Regional against Arizona.
Indiana State will then embark on a nine-game road swing on the west coast as they travel to Utah Valley, Seattle and Washington. The Sycamores will play four games at Utah Valley, the Western Athletic Conference qualifier for last year’s postseason tournament from Mar. 3rd-6th.
ISU will then play a lone game against Seattle Mar. 8th before wrapping up the trip against PAC-12 member Washington Mar. 10th-12th. The Huskies are coming off a 33-23 campaign which ended when they fell to UC Santa Barbara and Xavier at the Vanderbilt Regional.
Sycamore fans will get their first glimpse of the 2017 squad Mar. 17th-19th when they play host to Oakland at Bob Warn Field.
The team will play seven of its next eight games on the road beginning with a trip to Bloomington Mar. 29th to take on the Hoosiers. They continue the road trip over the weekend with a three-game series at Big Ten foe Illinois Mar. 31st-Apr. 2nd in Campaign before returning to Terre Haute for a midweek matchup with Purdue Apr. 4th.
ISU will open Missouri Valley Conference play the following weekend as they make their way to Evansville to take on the Purple Aces Apr. 7th-9th.
The Sycamores will enjoy their longest homestand of the season Apr. 11th-18th when they host IU Tuesday, Apr. 11th, Southern Illinois in a weekend series and Northern Illinois in a Tuesday midweek matchup Apr. 18th.
The Sycamores will make a return trip to West Lafayette to take on the Boilermakers Apr. 19th before heading to Dallas Baptist for a three-game series with the Patriots Apr. 21st-23rd. Indiana State will wrap up the five-game road swing with a short trip to Charleston, Illinois where they will play a single game against Eastern Illinois Apr. 25th.
Bradley will come to town Apr. 28th-30th before the Sycamores travel to Illinois State May 5th-7th and Missouri State May 12th-14th.
Indiana State will wrap up the regular season with a midweek game against Ball State May 16th before playing host to Wichita State in a three-game series May 18th-20th.
ISU will make the journey once again to Springfield, Mo. for the 2017 MVC Baseball Championship Tournament from May 24th-27th.
