KENNESAW, Ga. – Set to defend its 2016 ASUN regular season championship, the Kennesaw State baseball team will embark on a 55-game slate that features 32 contests at Stillwell Stadium this spring. The Owls home schedule is highlighted by matchups versus Georgia Tech, Georgia, Auburn, Oklahoma and Florida Gulf Coast.
The winningest head coach in program history, and now entering his 26th year at the helm, Mike Sansing leads the Owls fresh off a 17-4 record in the ASUN and Coach of the Year honors that helped guide KSU to the No. 1-seed in last year’s ASUN tournament.
“I’m very pleased with the schedule this season and the fans will have the opportunity to see excellent baseball at Stillwell Stadium. I think it’s a very competitive schedule, especially non-conference, that will prepare us for our ASUN stretch,” Sansing said. “The NCAA encourages you to go out of region for games and we welcome some tough non-conference opponents such as Oklahoma, BYU, Marshall and Western Michigan that’s outside of our region that will hopefully help our RPI for regional bids.”
Kennesaw State opens the season on Friday, February 17, by hosting the Atlanta Challenge against Marshall, BYU and Western Michigan on opening weekend. In addition to its ASUN schedule, the Owls host have weekend home series versus Oklahoma, Winthrop, Middle Tennessee and Canisius.
Home-and-home dates are set against ACC crosstown rival Georgia Tech, SEC foe Auburn and in-state rivals Mercer, Georgia Southern and Georgia State. When Big 12 opponent Oklahoma March 17-19, it will mark first matchup between the Owls and the Sooners.
“We take a lot of pride in playing schools from the state of Georgia and we will take on each Division I baseball program in the state this season. We will continue to energize baseball and schedule teams from the state and it will be a great challenge for us,” Sansing said.
Kennesaw State’s ASUN slate commences March 31 with a three-game series at North Florida. At home in ASUN play, the Owls will battle USC Upstate, Jacksonville and FGCU.
All games are subject to change. The television schedule and full game times will be released at a later date.
