CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College baseball team will face one of its toughest schedules to date in 2017 with nine games against ACC or SEC opponents and four games against 2016 NCAA Tournament participants. The slate, announced by head coach Elton Pollock on Tuesday, features 24 homes games at the PC Baseball Complex, in addition to 14 other games in the Palmetto State, including three at Fluor Field in Downtown Greenville.
“Our 2017 schedule will surely challenge us in every aspect,” said Pollock, who is set to begin his 13th season leading the program. “It will arguably be one of the toughest schedules we have faced in my tenure as head coach. That being said, I am extreme proud of where we are, both mentally and physically, as a team. Our upperclassmen leadership has been outstanding, and I look forward to seeing it all come together this spring.”
The season opens February 17-19 with a three-game series at traditional SEC power Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala. It will be PC’s first three-game series against an SEC foe since 2014 when it traveled to Auburn for three games, in which PC took the series opener, 10-6. The Blue Hose will once again travel to Auburn this season as well, taking on the Tigers in Auburn, Ala. from March 10-12.
The Blue Hose open the home portion of the schedule on February 21 against Furman in the first game of a five-game homestand. PC will follow with a home game against Wofford on February 22 and then a three-game series against Stony Brook from February 24-26.
The remainder of the home non-conference slate for PC features single games against Butler and NC Central on March 7 and 8, respectively, SoCon Champion and NCAA Tourney participant Western Carolina on April 11 and USC Upstate on March 3, in addition to a three-game series against Army from March 17-19.
The road portion of the non-conference schedule is highlighted by games at SEC foes Georgia (Mar. 15) and South Carolina (May 9) and ACC foe Duke (Apr. 26), the latter two of which both made appearances in the NCAA Tournament last season. PC will also play single road games at The Citadel, Davidson, Furman, North Carolina A&T, NC Central, USC Upstate and Western Carolina, while facing Wofford at Fluor Field on March 29.
The Blue Hose will once again take part in the First Pitch Invitational, held March 3-5 with games played primarily at Fluor Field in Greenville, S.C. They will take on UT Martin and Furman in Downtown and face Michigan State at Latham Stadium on the campus of Furman.
Conference play for PC kicks off with a three-game series at home against UNC Asheville from March 24-26. The Blue Hose will also host conference opponents Radford (Mar. 31 – Apr. 2), High Point (April 22-24) and Gardner-Webb (April 28-30) this season. PC makes road trips to conference schools Winthrop (Apr. 7-9), Longwood (Apr. 14-16), Charleston Southern (May 12-14) and Liberty (May 18-20).
The Blue Hose will look to make their second straight appearance in the Big South Championship. The eight-team tournament will be held in Lexington, S.C. again this year at the Lexington County Baseball Stadium from May 23-28.
