North Florida releases 2017 Schedule

UNFCollier_thumb.jpgJACKSONVILLE, Fla. – North Florida baseball will play the first of its 38 home games of the 2017 season on Feb. 17 against Radford. Head Coach Smoke Laval’s club has won 84 games the past two seasons, the most any ASUN team.

The 38 regular season home contests scheduled will be the most at Harmon Stadium since 1990 when the Ospreys were home for a program-high 44 games.

The Ospreys open up their 2017 campaign with a three-game home series with the Highlanders, the first ever meeting between the two schools. Radford is among three first-time opponents making the trip to Jacksonville on the 2017 slate (Northeastern – 2/24-26; Rutgers – 3/10-12).

North Florida will host Missouri Valley Conference opponents Bradley (3/17-19) and Dallas Baptist (3/24-26) in three-game weekend series. Dallas Baptist, the defending MVC Champion, won 44 games last season and has been to the NCAA Tournament the last three seasons.

In midweek action the Ospreys will renew in-state rivalries with Florida (4/18), UCF (2/21, 5/2) and USF (3/21, 4/19). The College of Charleston (3/14, 4/4), Bethune-Cookman (3/28, 3/29), Florida A&M (4/11, 5/3) and Savannah State (2/28, 3/22) are also among the home and home midweek series on the docket for North Florida.

The fourth-annual Mayor’s Cup played between Jacksonville and North Florida, will take place across town at John Sessions Stadium on March 8. The Ospreys have retained the cup in each of the three seasons of its existence. The two teams meet in ASUN action for the annual River City Rumble series in the final weekend of the the regular season, May 18-20.

ASUN Conference play will commence with a home series against Kennesaw State March 31-April 1. The Ospreys are also home for league series against NJIT (4/13-15) and FGCU (4/21-23). North Florida will play road ASUN series at Lipscomb (4/7-9), USC Upstate (5/3-5) and Stetson (5/12-14).

The six-team 2017 ASUN Conference Championship will be played at Stetson University May 24-27.
