SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State Baseball Head Coach Ty Harrington announced Wednesday the schedule for the 2017 season.
The Bobcats will open the 56-game campaign with a four-game home series Feb. 17-19 against Purdue. Texas State’s first road contests are slated for Feb. 24-26 against Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
“We certainly have built a schedule that our fans, alumni and university expects our program to play,” Harrington said. “Our schedule is filled with several ranked teams. We will also be traveling to numerous historic college baseball venues, along with having the opportunity to play the defending national champs in our own ballpark. Overall, it certainly makes for an exciting schedule.”
TXST is billed to play 33 games inside Bobcat Ballpark and 23 games on the road.
Notable non-conference home games include dates with Baylor (Feb. 22), Rice (March 15), Texas (March 21) and Texas A&M (March 28).
The first Sun Belt Conference action will be a three-game home series against the defending national champion Coastal Carolina Chanticleers March 17-19.
The Bobcats will meet five teams that ended the 2016 season inside the top-25 national rankings, including: No. 1 CCU, No. 5 OSU, No. 9 TAMU, No. 20 Rice and No. 24 UL Lafayette.
The 2017 Sun Belt Conference Championship will be contested May 24-28 in Statesboro, Georgia, and will be hosted by Georgia Southern.
Texas State is coming off a 2016 season that saw the squad finish 31-28 overall and tie for fifth in the SBC at 16-14. The Bobcats have qualified for the conference tournament all three years since joining the league in 2014.
