GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado baseball released an exciting 2017 schedule Monday morning. The Bears will look to make a third straight trip to the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tournament this season, with 19 home dates on schedule.
The season begins with a nine-game trip to Northern California that expands over two weeks. UNC will start in San Francisco when they take on the Dons of San Francisco with a four game series starting on February 17, including a doubleheader on the 18th.
The road trip continues with a solo game against San Francisco State on February 21 and ends at the San Jose State Tournament. The Bears will take on host SJSU three times over February 23-25, while also facing BYU once in that time frame.
Northern Colorado’s home opener will be on March 3rd when they host North Dakota State for a four-game series. First pitch for the home opener is set for 2:00 pm, and the series will consist of a double header on the 4th, and series finale at 12:00 pm on the 5th.
The Bears will head back on the road following the home opening series for seven games in the Midwest. The trip begins at Nebraska for a pair of mid-week games against the Cornhuskers, before heading an hour up I-80 to take on Nebraska-Omaha for the weekend. On their way back home, the team will make a stop at Wichita State for two mid-week games.
The WAC season begins at home for UNC, when they host Sacramento State for a three-game series over March 24-26. They then head to Phoenix, Arizona to take on Grand Canyon for the first WAC road series of the year.
As the calendar turns to April, the Bears host nine home games and travel out of state just once during the month. It begins with the first of three games against Air Force on April 4th. The other games against Air Force will be on April 11th and 25th in Colorado Springs.
The three other series that Northern Colorado will host during the month are against defending WAC Regular Season champion Seattle (April 7-9), Metro State (April 14-15) and defending WAC Tournament champion Utah Valley (April 28-30). The lone road trip during the month will be to Las Cruces, New Mexico to take on New Mexico State (April 21-23).
UNC well begin the final month of the season with a six-game road trip to CSU Bakersfield (May 5-7) and UT Rio Grande Valley (May 12-14). The final series of the regular season will take place at Jackson Field when Chicago State comes to town over the 18th-20th.
Once again this season the WAC Tournament will take place in Mesa, Arizona at Hohokam Stadium, the spring training home of the Oakland A’s, from May 24-28. The top six teams in the regular season standings will compete in the tournament.
