WASHINGTON – A home-and-home series with 2015 National Champion Virginia highlights the George Washington baseball team’s 56-game 2017 schedule, which was announced by fifth-year head coach Gregg Ritchie on Wednesday.
GW will open the 2016 season with a four-game series at Auburn (Feb. 17-19), a midweek stop at Delaware State (Feb. 22) and a three-game set at Florida A&M (Feb. 24-26).
The Colonials will commence their home slate on March 1 against Georgetown at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park before returning to the road for a three-game series at the Virginia Military Institute (March 3-5).
GW will host Virginia, which advanced to NCAA Regionals last season, on March 7 at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park before traveling to Charlottesville, Virginia, for the return game on April 5.
The Colonials will also host NJIT (March 10-12), Bryant (March 15), Monmouth (March 17-19), Towson (March 28), UMES (April 4), UMBC (April 11), Coppin State (April 18) and Delaware State (April 26) in non-conference action at Tucker Field this season.
GW will also pay a non-conference visit to Villanova (April 13-15) during a bye weekend in the Atlantic 10 Conference schedule.
Atlantic 10 opponents set to visit Tucker Field this spring are Massachusetts (March 24-26), Rhode Island (April 21-13), Davidson (April 28-30) and Saint Joseph’s (May 18-20).
Road trips within the conference will be to VCU (March 31-April 2), Richmond (April 7-9), George Mason (May 5-7) and La Salle (May 12-14).
The 2017 Atlantic 10 Championship will be held at the The Billiken Sports Center in Saint Louis, Missouri, May 25-28.
GW returns 22 letterwinners from last season’s team that helped the program to its fifth 20-win season in a row and the third postseason appearance in four years under Ritchie. The Colonials also welcome 11 newcomers to the field in 2017.
