May 25, 2016 – ##9 Alabama vs #1 Mississippi State
The 2017 schedule features eight teams that advanced to the NCAA postseason in 2016, including four Super Regional hosts and one College World Series participant.
“I’m really excited about our schedule, especially having the opportunity to play 37 home games this season,” said head coach Greg Goff. “Our team is looking forward to getting to play in front of our great fans and inside our beautiful stadium every opportunity we get. I hope to see “The Joe” packed out every night to provide us with some extra energy and help us build a home field advantage unlike any other.”
The Crimson Tide will open 2017 with 20 consecutive home games to begin the season, with the Tide playing host to the Presbyterian College Blue Hose from Feb. 17-19 to open the 2017 schedule. Alabama will follow with non-conference weekend series against Oral Roberts (Feb. 24-26), Louisiana-Monroe (March 3-5) and Arkansas Pine Bluff (March 10-12).
Sandwiched between the four non-conference weekend series will be single matchups against NCAA Regional participant Southern Miss (Feb. 21), along with Jacksonville State (Feb. 28), Troy (March 7), Eastern Illinois (March 14) and Samford (March 15).
Alabama will round out its 20-game homestand with a series against Missouri to kick off Southeastern Conference play from March 17-19.
The Tide will then take to the road for five straight games, first with a trip to Birmingham to take on UAB at Regions Field on March 21. Following the quick stop, Alabama will head to Columbia to take on South Carolina from March 24-26. The roadtrip will close out with the annual MAX Capital City Classic against Auburn in Montgomery on Tuesday, March 28.
UA will return to Sewell-Thomas Stadium for a March 31-April 2 series against Arkansas before heading to Troy to complete the home-and-home with the Trojans on April 4.
Following the trip to Troy, Alabama will begin a tough stretch of SEC series that will pit the Tide against six NCAA Super Regional Participants from a season ago. The Crimson Tide will host Texas A&M (April 13-15), LSU (April 28-30) and College World Series contestant Florida (May 12-14) in Tuscaloosa, and will travel to Ole Miss (April 7-9), Mississippi State (April 21-23), Auburn (May 5-7) and finally Vanderbilt (May 18-20) to close out the regular season.
Alabama will also square off at home with UAB (April 11), Jacksonville State (April 25) and Grambling (May 10) in single midweek contests. The Tide will host Alcorn State for a pair of games from April 18-19 as the lone back-to-back, non-conference matchup of the season. The only non-conference roadtrip during the second half of the season will be for a Tuesday contest at Samford on May 9.
The Tide will not have regular-season SEC games with Georgia, Tennessee and Kentucky in 2017.
The SEC Baseball Tournament will remain in Hoover, Ala., at the Hoover Met Stadium. The 10-team face-off will begin on Tuesday, May 23 and finish on Sunday, May 28.
All game dates are subject to change by The University of Alabama, its opponents or the Southeastern Conference. Game times, television schedules and promotions have yet to be set and will be released at a later date on RollTide.com.
The 2017 campaign will be the Crimson Tide’s first under Goff, who was officially hired on June 17, 2016. The first-year head coach brings a wealth of experience to Tuscaloosa, having coached his teams to six 40-plus win seasons and a near .600 career winning percentage across his 13 years as a head coach.
Sewell-Thomas Stadium will enter its second season in operation after undergoing a complete renovation during the 2015 campaign. The Joe was a hit with fans in its first season, welcoming 133,721 fans inside last year and selling out on nine different occasions. Six of those nine sellouts ranked amongst the top-10 all-time attendance marks for Sewell-Thomas and helped the Crimson Tide average 4,611 fans per game in 2015.
