WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Wake Forest head baseball coach Tom Walter announced the Demon Deacons’ 56-game 2017 schedule on Monday afternoon.
The schedule includes two games against 2016 College World Series champions Coastal Carolina, a home series against 12-time national champions Southern Cal, and a season-opening tournament at Houston.
Wake Forest’s ACC slate includes series against College World Series qualifier Miami, super regional teams in Louisville, Florida State and Boston College and NCAA Tournament qualifiers Clemson, Duke, Georgia Tech and NC State.
“This schedule, like last year, should allow us to carry an RPI worthy of NCAA consideration,” head coach Tom Walter said. “With a tournament at Houston, USC at home and our yearly home and away non-conference opponents, we have as competitive a schedule as you’ll see nationally.”
Wake Forest plays 29 games at home inside David F. Couch Ballpark. Following the season-opening tournament in Houston, the Demon Deacons return home for 12 of the next 13 contests.
Eight of the Deacons’ 10 ACC foes competed in last year’s NCAA Tournament, plus home series against Notre Dame and Pittsburgh.
The Deacons opened fall practice last week, which will continue into October. The annual Black & Gold World Series includes games on Sept. 30 at 2:30 p.m., Oct. 2 at 10 a.m. and Oct. 9 at 10 a.m., while the other contests may be on Oct. 7 or 8 depending on the football game time.
