University at Buffalo upcoming senior RHP Blair Lasko struggled throughout the 2016 college baseball season accumulating a ERA of 8.84, third-worst on the team. He walked 21 batters and had 18 strikeouts in 19 1/3 innings over 11 appearances while giving up 27 hits and 19 earned runs. Batters had a .338 average against him. He threw seven wild pitches and beaned six batters.
Everything was pointing to him focusing on something other than Baseball after college but he turned the corner this summer in the Northwoods League with the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. The coaching staff made some tweaks to his motion and took off from there.
He started touching 95 mph with his fastball and his slider became filthy which led to scouts jumping all over him. The Twins were the benefactors of the jump in talent and signed him to an $85,000 signing bonus to leave UB with one year of eligibility left. He’ll have an additional $5,000 waiting for three classes needed to graduate if baseball doesn’t work out. He will report to the state of Florida to start on his professional career and hopefully ends with a spot on a MLB roster.
