NECBLLogo.jpgNORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Mystic outfielder Martin Figeuroa (Rhode Island) and New Bedford closer Matthew Leon (Seton Hall) have been named the league’s Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for their efforts on the diamond. Both players are rising juniors.

Outfielder Figeuroa hit .583 with three homers, eight RBI and four walks. He homered in three straight games- all Schooner wins- on July 27, 28 and 30. Figeuroa is slugging .542 on the summer, helping Mystic maintain its three game first place lead in the Southern Division.

It was 13 up, 13 down for Leon, who literally was perfect in his three relief appearances for New Bedford. In the 4.1 innings, Leon struck out three and more importantly, saved the Bay Sox 6-3 win over Plymouth on July 29 and their 3-1 win at Ocean State the next day.

The NECBL congrats both players on their accomplishments.
