Quick Thoughts on Tuesday’s Regional Final

LSU PhotoMy long nightmare is over as the 2016 NCAA Regionals which seemed to go on forever with the terrible weather in the southeast this past weekend. The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, LSU Tigers, and the South Carolina each rounded out the final 16 schools left in the NCAA Baseball Tournament.

  • The Coastal Carolina and NC State Wolfpack battled through a rain storm which seemed like a monsoon on Monday. The Chanticleers loaded up the bases with one out in the ninth trailing by two runs with it absolutely pouring. The umps called out the tarp crew and were not able to restart the game until Tuesday at 2pm. When played resumed, Coastal Carolina promptly grounded out to make it a one run game and then a fly ball to right was nearly caught for the final out of the inning but it was clearly trapped allowing Coastal Carolina to take the lead. They were able to hold onto the lead expanding it to two runs to advance to the Super Regionals where they will take on LSU.
  • The South Carolina Gamecocks were trailing 1-0 to UNC-Wilmington after three innings but exploded for five runs in the top of the fourth while cruising to a 10-5 victory to head to the Super Regionals where they will play Oklahoma State in a SEC-Big 12 showdown in Columbia. Leading the way was Madison Stokes who went 3-4 with three runs scored and three RBI.
  • The LSU Tigers were struggling mightily against Rice trailing 2-0 heading into the seventh inning when the Tigers exploded for three runs. They followed that inning by scoring two more in the eighth to eventually win 5-2. Greg Deichmann had the best games for the Tigers going 3-4 with 2 RBI.
