Strike one: Simonds completes the no-no
(2) Texas A&M defeated (8) Vanderbilt 3-0 with the help of Kyle Simonds not allowing the Commodores to get a single hit. Vanderbilt was only able to muster one baserunner, who reached on an Austin Homan error. The win clinches the series for the Aggies, and they will travel to Columbia, South Carolina to take on South Carolina next weekend.
Strike two: Wolfpack offense erupts
(6) North Carolina State had no shortage of scoring yesterday, defeating Clemson 20-9. All 20 runs were scored in the second, third and fourth innings. Wolfpack center fielder Josh McLain finished with three hits and four RBIs and scored two runs, also stealing a base. The game was a long one for the Tigers, whose pitchers walked eight batters. The series is still up in the air with game three deciding the winner of the series Sunday.
Strike three: Blue Jays getting hot
Creighton shut out Georgetown 4-0 Saturday, notching their seventh-straight win. The Blue Jays are 16-4 in their last 20 games and are atop the Big East standings with an impressive 10-1 conference record. Creighton’s Jeff Albrecht improved to 6-0 on the season, allowing just two hits over seven innings of work. Creighton will look for conference win number 11 Sunday, when the Blue Jays will try to complete the sweep of the Hoyas.
