Strike One: Sears’ strikeout party
Citadel starting pitcher J.P. Sears struck out 19 VMI hitters in last night’s 10-2 win. The Bulldogs’ ace went eight innings, striking out 19 of the 28 batters he faced. At one point in the game, Sears retired 15 VMI hitters in a row.
Strike Two: Longhorns get a big series W
Texas was able to take game two against TCU last night, 2-0. Longhorns’ starter Ty Culbreth earned his fourth win of the season, and Texas’ bullpen didn’t allow a single hit in relief. The Longhorns might have an 11-12 record, but they are currently 2-0 in Big 12 play.
Strike Three: Miami walks off again
For the second Friday night in a row, Hurricanes’ slugger Willie Abreu hit a walk-off home run against a ranked opponent. (12) Clemson was the victim last night, losing to (7) Miami, 9-8, which is their second ACC loss of the season. Abreu finished with two hits, including his no-doubter in the bottom of the 9th, and two RBIs.
