MSUFeaturedStrike One: Bulldogs’ big weekend

(20) Mississippi State defeated (9) Oregon 5-2 Sunday, completing a three-game sweep of the Ducks. The Bulldogs outscored Oregon 24-9 over the weekend. Sunday’s game featured seven scoreless innings thrown by Mississippi State’s Daniel Brown, and right fielder Brent Rooker tallied three hits, including a two-run homer. Mississippi State will begin conference play against (2) Vanderbilt in Nashville this Friday.

Strike Two: Heavy Brew

Clemson freshman outfielder Seth Beer had himself a monster weekend at the plate. Beer hit four home runs and finished this weekend’s series against Wake Forest with eight RBIs. Sunday’s game decided the series, which was the first ACC series for both teams, and Clemson entered the seventh inning trailing the Demon Deacons 8-4. The Tigers put together an incredible inning offensively, ending up with an eight-run inning in the seventh. Clemson went on to beat Wake Forest 13-8, earning them their first conference series win of the season.

Strike Three: Cougars complete sweep in a slugfest

College of Charleston clinched a series sweep against Mercer Sunday in a game where both teams hit the baseball well. The Cougars were able to beat the Bears 17-13 in a game that featured seven combined home runs and 12 pitchers. Every starter in the Cougars’ lineup reached base at least once, and all except one Cougar starter scored at least one run. The victory gave College of Charleston their eleventh victory of the season and improves their record to 11-4.
