Stirke One: Older Schmidt shines
Clark Schmidt dominated Clemson Friday, but his older-brother Clate made the series even by allowing just one hit in Saturday’s game. Clemson evened the series 1-1 with Schmidt and reliever Pat Krall tossing a combined shutout where they allowed just two hits. Clemson’s victory ended a South Carolina 10-game winning streak and was the Gamecocks’ first-loss of the season.
Strike Two: Gauchos’ pitching dominant
UCSB pitching only allowed four hits in their 1-0 win over (9) Oregon. The Gauchos’ Noah Davis and Kyle Nelson were the only pitchers’ used by UCSB in the shutout. Davis pitched eight innings, allowing just one-hit, and Nelson, who got the win, finished the game out adding six innings of his own in the extra-inning win over the Ducks.
Strike Three: Raining in Vanderbilt
Vandy moved their Friday and Saturday games against Stanford to Thursday for a double-header. This is the third time this season that Vanderbilt has been affected by the rain, but the Commodores and Cardinal will meet today to determine the series, which is tied 1-1.
