The third weekend of the college baseball had an exciting start tonight. Let’s get into the strikeout:
Strike One: UNC escapes to find a win in extra-innings
It took the Tar Heels 14-innings to take care of Fairfield in the Friday night game. North Carolina’s built their resume nicely, winning their first two series over top 25 teams. North Carolina is now 4-1 in one-run games this season, and the Tar Heels have won four-straight games that were decided by one run.
Strike Two: (13) South Carolina dominant in first game against Clemson
Friday night starter Clark Schmidt was dominant against Clemson, striking out nine hitters over eight innings of work. His only real mistakes of the night came when he hit three batters, but Clemson was unable to produce any runs against the sophomore right-hander. The Gamecocks busted the game open with a big five-run fifth inning. South Carolina first baseman Alex Destino was 5-5 at the plate with five singles and drove in four of the Gamecocks’ runs.
South Carolina and Clemson will meet at Fluor Field in Greenville, South Carolina tomorrow afternoon for game two.
Strike Three: Houston’s woes continue
The once-ranked Cougars dropped their fifth-straight loss tonight against the Baylor Bears. Houston hasn’t scored more than three runs during their five-game losing streak and offense continues to be an issue. The Cougars will try to get back on track tomorrow night at home for game two of the series.
