BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo, The State University of New York baseball head coach Ron Torgalski announced the squads 2016 schedule on Thursday afternoon. The Bulls will play a 51-game regular season slate which includes 24 Mid-American Conference games and a three-game set with SEC opponent Kentucky in Lexington.
“As always, we put together a very challenging schedule for our guys,” said head coach Ron Torgalski. “A tough non-conference schedule is something we believe helps prepare us to compete in the very tough Mid-American Conference.”
The Bulls have seven games against teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2015 to go along with 17 scheduled home games at Amherst Audobon Field.
Buffalo will open up the season on the road at the Davidson Tournament as they will play the Hosts on Friday, Feb. 19 before playing Fairfield on Feb. 20 and Air Force on Feb. 21. The meeting against the Falcons will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs. The following weekend (Feb. 26-28) the Bulls will head down to Tennessee to take on the UT Martin Skyhawks in a three-game set for the first time in program history.
To kick off March the Bulls will be on the road in Lexington, KY to take on perennial SEC power Kentucky in a three-game set. The games will be played on Friday, Mar. 4, Saturday, Mar. 5 and Sunday, Mar. 6 at Cliff Hagan Stadium. The following weekend (Mar. 12-14) the Bulls will head to Baltimore, MD to open a three-game set with Mount St. Mary’s before heading to Annapolis, MD to take on the US Naval Academy on Wednesday, Mar. 16.
Most of the non-conference portion of the Bulls schedule will conclude on the weekend of Mar. 18-20 as the Bulls head to Boston, MA to take on the Northeastern Huskies. On Tuesday, Mar. 22 UB will partake in their first Big 4 game of the season as they will travel to cross-town foe Canisius for an afternoon tilt.
MAC play kicks off on March 25-27 for the Bulls as they head to Toledo to take on the Rockets in a three-game series. March will conclude with a doubleheader against Big 4 foe St. Bonaventure on Tuesday, Mar. 29 with the games being played at 2:00 pm and 4:30 pm.
April begins a month full of MAC games for the Bulls as they open the month with their first homes games of the season against Eastern Michigan. The games will take place on Friday, April 1 at 3:00 pm, Saturday, April 2 at 1:00 pm and Sunday, April 3 at 1:00 pm at Amherst Audobon Field. The Bulls will then head to Athens to take on the defending MAC champions, Ohio in a three-game set from April 8-10. The month will conclude for Buffalo with a pair of three-game MAC sets at home against Miami (OH) and Ball State.
The final month of the regular season begins with UB on the road at MAC foe Kent State on May 6-8 before the Bulls play a pair of road non-conference game against Hofstra and Niagara on May 14 and 17, respectively. UB will conclude their regular season slate with three games against Bowling Green at home from May 19-21.
