NortheasternFeaturedBOSTON – Northeastern baseball head coach Mike Glavine proudly revealed the Huskies’ 2016 season schedule on Monday. Of the 15 non-conference opponents NU will play this season, eight finished in the top five of their respective 2015 league standings, four are members of power conferences (Oklahoma, Washington State, Boston College, and Connecticut), and four are programs Northeastern will be facing for the first time.

In addition to a challenging non-conference slate, the Huskies will also play a demanding 24-game CAA round-robin that features two NCAA tournament teams from a year ago (College of Charleston and UNCW). This season, Northeastern will host league series against UNCW (April 1-3), Elon (April 8-10), William & Mary (April 22-24), and Towson (May 19-21).

Highlighting the 2016 schedule for NU is the program’s annual spring exhibition game against the Boston Red Sox, to be held on Monday, Feb. 29, at Jet Blue Park in Fort Myers, Florida. The Huskies and Red Sox will meet in the second game of the pro-college doubleheader at 4:05 p.m., following the Red Sox’ matinee game against Boston College.

Northeastern will open its 2016 season with a four-game series at Oklahoma between Feb. 19 and Feb. 21, including a Saturday doubleheader on Feb. 20. From there, the Huskies will travel to Texas for a four-game set at Abilene Christian from Feb. 26 to Feb. 28, before squaring off against the Red Sox in Florida on Feb. 29.

NU will return to the Sunshine State the next weekend as the Huskies play a three-game, neutral-site series against Cornell at Chain O’ Lakes Park (March 5-6), the former spring training site of the MLB’s Red Sox and Cleveland Indians.

After competing in a four-game series against Washington State (March 10-13), Northeastern will play its 2016 home opener on Friday, March 18 against Buffalo as the two squads kickoff a three-game weekend set (March 18-20). NU will then host Boston College (March 22) before beginning CAA play at James Madison (March 25-27).

Upon facing Massachusetts (March 29) and Rhode Island (March 30), Northeastern will host defending CAA champion UNCW for three games between April 1 and April 3. The Huskies will remain home on April 5 to play Connecticut a day prior to meeting Harvard (April 6) in the first round of the 2016 Beanpot tournament.

Northeastern will welcome Elon to Friedman Diamond for the first time from April 8 to April 10 and close out a four-game home stand against Quinnipiac on April 13. NU will then travel to Delaware (April 15-17) before hosting Bryant (April 19). The 2016 Beanpot championship and consolation games will take place on April 20, with locations and times yet to be determined.

Following a three-game home series against William & Mary (April 22-24), the Huskies will use their CAA bye week to host Central Connecticut State (April 29-30) for a Friday day game and Saturday doubleheader. NU will wrap up a seven-game home stay with Hartford on May 3, before hitting the road to play Hofstra (May 6-8), UMass Lowell (May 10), and College of Charleston (May 13-15).

Northeastern will close out the 2016 regular season with a three-game home series against Towson running from May 19 to May 21. The top six teams in the CAA will advance to the league’s postseason tournament, to be held from May 25 to May 28 at The Ballpark at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina (hosted by College of Charleston).

All game times listed on Northeastern’s 2016 season schedule are Eastern and are subject to change.
