Florida International releases 2016 Schedule

FIU_ATH_logo(282-125spot)MIAMI (Dec. 7, 2015) – The 2016 edition of the FIU baseball schedule was released on Monday. Comprised of 55 games, the 2016 schedule features, 22 teams from 11 conferences, including five NCAA Tournament teams from 2015.

The season will open with a three-game set at NCAA Regional participant Ole Miss, Feb. 19-21. The Rebels are one of 12 non-conference foes the Panthers will face this season, including St .Thomas, Missouri, Seton Hall, Loyola Marymount, Stetson, Illinois State, Manhattan, Jacksonville, Bethune-Cookman, USF and Louisville.

Coming off the program’s 12th Division I postseason appearance and first since 2011, the Panthers won 17 games at the FIU Baseball Stadium last season. FIU’s home slate in 2016 is made up of 32 games. The Panthers will welcome St. Thomas (Feb. 23), Missouri (Feb. 24), Seton Hall (Feb. 26 – March 1), Loyola Marymount (March 4-6), Stetson (March 8), Illinois State (March 9), Manhattan (March 11-13) and Bethune-Cookman (April 13) in non-conference action.

In the team’s third season in Conference USA, the defending C-USA Champion Panthers will open league play at Charlotte (March 18-20) and will host Marshall (March 24-26) in the team’s home conference opener. Including its three-game set with the Thundering Herd, FIU will host five conference series this season with Old Dominion (April 8-10), 2015 NCAA Regional participant Florida Atlantic (April 22-24), 2015 C-USA Regular Season Champion Rice (May 6-8) and Southern Miss (May 19-20).

FIU will travel to San Antonio, Texas, to take on conference foe UTSA (April 1-3) as well as travel to Ruston, La., to take on Louisiana Tech (April 15-17) and Bowling Green, Ky., to face WKU (April 29 May 1). The Panthers will make their final regular season road trip, traveling to Birmingham, Ala., to take on UAB (May 13-15).

The 2016 C-USA Baseball Tournament will be held May 25-29 in Hattiesburg, Miss.
