“As we continue our transformation into regional contenders, it is important that we put together a challenging non-conference schedule to prepare us for the Atlantic 10 slate,” said fourth-year head coach Gregg Ritchie. “Our two trips to Florida in the first few weeks of the season will have us playing quality teams right from the start.”
The Colonials will play six of their first seven games on the road, beginning with a season-opening, three-game series at the University of North Florida. GW returns north for its home opener against Delaware State on February 23 before heading back down to the Sunshine State to compete in the prestigious Russ Matt Invitational in Winter Haven. The Colonials will play a pair of games against Kent State (Feb. 26-27) before concluding the event against Ball State on Feb. 28.
GW will play nine of its next 10 games at home starting with a midweek contest against James Madison (March 1). The Colonials will then host Cal State Northridge for a three-game series from March 4-6 in the return games of a home-and-home that started last March in California.
Additional high-profile, non-conference games include a repeat visit to Maryland (March 9), 11 months after the Colonials downed the Terrapins, 12-1, in their first win over a ranked opponent since 2008. GW will also visit defending National Champion Virginia (April 6) as well as three-game series at Charleston Southern (March 18-20) and Houston (March 24-26).
The Colonials will also face Monmouth (March 11-13), NJIT (March 13), Yale (March 16), Georgetown (March 22) and UMBC (March 29) in non-conference home games at Tucker Field.
Additional road games include UMBC (April 5), Towson (April 12), Georgetown (April 20), James Madison (April 27) and Delaware State (May 11).
GW will open Atlantic 10 Conference Play on April 1 by hosting La Salle for a three-game series at Tucker Field. The Colonials will also play host to George Mason (April 15-17), VCU (April 29-May 1) and Richmond (May 13-16) during the conference schedule.
Road A-10 series include visits to Davidson (April 8-10), Dayton (April 22-24), Fordham (May 6-8) and Saint Louis (May 19-21)
The 2016 Atlantic 10 Championship will be hosted by Fordham, May 25-29, at Houlihan Park in Bronx, New York.
