BOCA RATON, Fla. – Twenty-nine home games and a matchup against a Major League team highlight the 2016 Florida Atlantic University baseball season, which begins on February 19.
The Owls will open the season on Feb. 19 at Mississippi State with a three-day trip, squaring off against the host Bulldogs of the Southeastern Conference as well as South Dakota State.
“I really like our schedule, an early test at MSU and then a home stand before we start conference play,” FAU Head Coach John McCormack said.
FAU’s home opener is slated for Friday, Feb. 26 as the Owls take on Long Island University in a three-game series. Another three game weekend follows as Georgetown comes to Boca Raton starting on Friday, March 4. FAU also hosts St. Joseph’s and Rutgers to round out an 11-game home stand before opening Conference USA play at Middle Tennessee on March 18.
In C-USA action, FAU will travel to MT, Old Dominion, Marshall, FIU and Rice while hosting UAB, Charlotte, Southern Miss, UTSA and WKU.
“The conference schedule is a gauntlet that we maneuver through,” McCormack said. “I like the fact that we challenge our players with a tough schedule.”
The Owls will also play in several Sunshine State battles, taking on Florida, Miami, UCF and FGCU. FAU hosts Miami on Wednesday, March 30.
FAU’s final non-conference challenge comes in the form of a midweek series at Ohio State on May 10 and 11.
The Owls wrap up the regular season with a three-game home series against WKU before setting their sights on the Conference USA Tournament in Hattiesburg, Miss.
