SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State Head Coach Ty Harrington announced the 2016 baseball schedule Monday. The Bobcats will host Washington State in a four-game slate to start the season and welcomes perennial powerhouses Texas and Rice along with UTSA, Nevada and Sun Belt Conference opponents Appalachian State, South Alabama, Little Rock, Troy, Georgia State and more in 2016. Finally, to cap off the season, the Bobcats will host the Sun Belt Conference Championship Tournament at Bobcat Ballpark on May 20-25, 2016.
“It’s an exciting schedule. It’s one that our season ticket holders are certainly going to enjoy. The new fans and students, along with those who have been loyal fans, will enjoy the schedule,” said Harrington. “There are a lot of great teams coming to San Marcos, a lot of regional powers that will be here.”
Those regional powers will have to be ready for strong returning Bobcats that include Lucas Humpal on the mound along with Cory Geisler, Granger Studdard, Tanner Hill and more.
Season tickets for Texas State Baseball will go on sale on December 1 with single-game tickets and mini plans set to be available for purchase in January.
163428912After Washington State, the Bobcats will travel to face Rice and follow up with games against Michigan State, UCF and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the Kleber Bank College Classic in Corpus Christi. Texas State returns home after that to host a midweek game against Texas and a series against Incarnate Word before meeting Baylor in Waco on March 8.
The following weekend, March 11-13, Texas State will open conference place at UL Monroe followed by home weekends versus Appalachian State and South Alabama with midweeks at UTSA and UT Rio Grande Valley. After that, the Bobcats will take to the road for a big matchup at Sam Houston State on March 28 at 6:30 p.m., followed by home midweek games against TAMUCC and UTSA around a road conference weekend at Georgia Southern.
Texas State will return home to host an eight-game home stand that starts with UTSA and continues with a series against Nevada, a midweek against Rice and a conference series versus Little Rock.
The Bobcats will have an important road swing after that with games at Texas A&M on April 19 and Texas on April 26 around a road series against UL Lafayette. Texas State will host Troy and Georgia State the next two weekends with a midweek game at UTSA.
Then, the Bobcats finish the regular season on the road at Arkansas State, at Texas and at UT Arlington before coming back to San Marcos to host the Sun Belt Conference Championship Tournament on May 25-29.
