ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine Baseball team released their 2016 schedule today, the Black Bears are playing three ACC teams and other very competitive non-conference programs on the schedule.
“Having 3 ACC programs in BC, Miami, and Clemson, coupled with a very competitive New Mexico St and highly successful Stetson series will certainly bring its challenges but will make us a better program when our conference season comes around.” Said Head Coach Steve Trimper.
The Black Bears open the season against Clemson with a three game series 2/19-2/21. Maine travels to New Mexico State University for a four game series starting 2/26-2/28.
Maine travels south to Florida as they take on St. Bonaventure on 3/4 at 11 a.m. and take on North Dakota State at 3 p.m. Then on 3/7 Maine plays St. Bonaventure again.
The following day, the Black Bears play the University of Miami. Maine then plays Long Island University in Deland, Florida.
The Black Bears stay in Deland, Florida and play a three game series against Stetson University 3/11-3/13. Maine then travels to Winter Haven, Florida where they will first play Bucknell on 3/15 and then play Lehigh the following day.
Maine returns to action on 3/18 as they take on the UMass Minutemen and then face Dartmouth on 3/19. Maine faces UMass for a second time in three days on 3/20.
“We are very excited to have put together another competitive schedule. As always, we try to play quality teams in the early part of our schedule in order to better prepare us for a run at a America East championship.” Said Head Coach Trimper.
The Black Bears travel back home to Orono, Maine as they open America East play and host Binghamton University on 3/26 in a double header. Maine and Binghamton play again on 3/27.
Stony Brook hosts Maine for a three game weekend series first starting with a double header on 4/2 and then the third game of the series on 4/3.
The Black Bears return home to host the University of Maine Farmington on 4/5. Maine then hosts NYIT for four games, with one on 4/8, a double header on 4/9 and the final game on 4/10.
Thomas College travels to Orono as they play one game on 4/12. Maine continues the home stand hosting UMBC for a double header on 4/16 and the third game on 4/17. The final game of the home stand for Maine is against University of Maine Presque Isle on 4/19.
The Black Bears travel to the University of Hartford for a pair of weekend games on 4/23-4/24. They return home for four games. The first against Colby College on 4/26. Then they host UMass-Lowell in a three game series with a double header on 4/30 followed by the final game of the series on 5/1.
Maine travels on the road to Albany for a double header on 5/7 and then the third and final game of the series on 5/8.
The Black Bears return for their final series at home for the regular season. They host Stony Brook for a double header on 5/14 and the third game of the series on 5/15.
Maine travels on the road to Boston College for one game on 5/17, then continue their road trip to Binghamton for a three game series that starts on 5/20 with a double header and concludes on 5/21.
The America East Tournament begins on 5/25 and wraps up on 5/28.
