LOWELL, Mass. – UMass Lowell Baseball Head Coach Ken Harring has announced his squad’s 2016 schedule for the program’s third year of Division I play.
“This year’s schedule is our most challenging to date,” said Harring. “Opening up at the Mississippi State Tournament will put us in an environment we will play in when we eventually play in an NCAA Regional. The non-conference portion will fully prepare us for America East play.”
The 55-game slate is highlighted by trips to Mississippi State for the MSU Tournament (February 26-28), and to the University of Delaware Tournament (March 4-6). The River Hawks will play a pair of games against the Bulldogs and Nicholls State in Starkville, Miss., and take on Delaware State and Delaware at the UDel tourney.
UMass Lowell will head out to California for four games against Santa Clara (March 11-13), and a single game at San Francisco on March 16.
After the West Coast trip, UMass Lowell makes its 2016 debut at the friendly confines of LeLacheur Park on March 19 for a doubleheader against NYIT, followed by a single game the following day.
The America East slate begins the weekend of March 26 with a three-game series at UMBC. The River Hawks’ first home conference series takes place the following weekend (April 2-3) against Hartford.
Notable single-game matchups include playing at Dartmouth on April 10, hosting Connecticut on April 20, traveling to Boston College on April 26 and entertaining Northeastern on May 10.
The 2016 season will end with a weekend series on the road against the Monmouth Hawks beginning on May 20.
UMass Lowell will kick off the campaign against Nicholls State on Feb. 26. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. EST.
