NC State baseball released its 2016 schedule on Wednesday, featuring games against 11 NCAA Tournament teams from 2015 and five of last year’s top 25 RPIs.
Last season the Wolfpack returned to the NCAA Tournament and finished one win shy of the NCAA Super Regionals. In 2016, the Pack looks to build on that success with stiff competition throughout the regular season slate.
NC State meets 11 teams who won a combined 25 games in the 2015 NCAA Tournament. Ten of those wins belong to defending national champ Virginia, a trip the Pack takes at the beginning of April. Florida State and Louisville represent seven more tournament wins, visits to both of those destinations await State in March and May. Nonconference opponents St. John’s, UNCW, Coastal Carolina, and Wright State won a combined seven games in 2015 NCAA Regionals. Other tournament teams on the schedule include Notre Dame, Clemson, and Morehead State.
State matches up with five of the top 25 RPIs from a season ago, and 11 of the top 45. On Saturday, March 5, the Pack meets Alabama at Cary’s USA Baseball Complex as part of the Irish Classic. The Wolfpack opens the year with a trip to Baseball at the Beach, and a pair of games at the Myrtle Beach Pelicans’ TicketReturn.com Park. NC State travels to Charlotte’s BB&T Ballpark March 29 to face Charlotte, and Greensboro’s NewBridge Bank Park on April 22 for a game against North Carolina A&T.
The Wolfpack closes its regular season with 12-consecutive games against ACC opponents; roadtrips to Clemson and Louisville bookended by homestands against Duke and UNC.
