TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – In conjunction with this weekend’s Garnet & Gold scrimmages, which close out the 2015 fall slate, Florida State University and Seminole Baseball released the 2016 Florida State baseball schedule on Wednesday.
The schedule, which features seven teams who participated in the 2015 NCAA baseball tournament, will open head coach Mike Martin’s 37th year at the helm with a three-game home stand against Rhode Island at Dick Howser Stadium on Mike Martin Field, February 19-21.That is quickly followed by a meeting with College of Charleston (Feb. 26-28), who played the Seminoles twice in the 2015 Regionals.
“We have put together another overall tough schedule as we are playing a number of postseason teams,” said Martin. “More importantly, it is a great home schedule with Miami and Louisville coming to Tallahassee.”
Florida State is slated to square-off against seven schools from the Sunshine State for a total of 16 games. That will include visits to South Florida (March 8), Stetson (May 4) and Jacksonville (May 10). The Seminoles will also serve as mid-week hosts to UCF (March 22-23) and Florida Gulf Coast (April 5-6).
FSU will face in-state rival Florida on three occasions when they face the Gators for the first of three meetings on March 15 in Gainesville. That will be followed by a game at the Baseball Grounds in Jacksonville on March 29 before the final clash on April 12 in Tallahassee.
“Again we are going head-to-head against a number of in-state teams,” added Martin. “This is great for the game of baseball within the state of Florida.”
After meetings with NCAA Regional participants St. Johns and South Florida in early March, Florida State begins Atlantic Coast Conference play with a home series against Georgia Tech (March 11-13). The remaining four league home series include a 2015 ACC Championship Game rematch with NC State (March 25-27), Super Regional participant Louisville (April 8-10) and Notre Dame (April 22-24).
That leads up to the 2016 regular finale against ACC rival Miami who travels to Tallahassee for a three-game set that begins on Thursday May 19.
The Seminoles’ conference road slate includes trips to Pittsburgh (March 18-20), Boston College (April 1-3), Wake Forest (April 15-17), Clemson (April 30, May 1-2) and Duke (May 13-15).
Florida State’s final non-conference series of the season features a three-game home stretch against Bowling Green State, May 6-8.
The ACC Baseball Tournament returns to the Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C., for the fourth time since 2009. Florida State has reached the title game on four occasions in that span, capturing the 2015 title in Durham against NC State.
“I am very pleased with the overall ACC schedule,” said Martin. “They are all competitive teams in the league because whether you are at home or on the road any ACC team is capable of beating another.”
