WACO, Texas – Baylor baseball announced its 2016 schedule Tuesday, featuring 52 overall games and 32 at home. The Bears will face six 2015 NCAA Tournament teams and their 22 opponents combined for a 670-554-2 (.546) record last season.
First-year head coach Steve Rodriguez’s maiden voyage with the Bears also features five teams that won either their conference regular season or postseason titles and only seven of the teams finished with a record below .500 in 2015.
BU starts 2015 by playing its first seven games at home and does not leave the state of Texas until April 8. The season begins with a three-game series vs. Washington Feb. 19-21, tilt vs. UT Arlington Feb. 23 and another three-game series vs. Stony Brook (conference champion, NCAA Tournament) Feb. 26-28.
The Bears’ first road trip includes games at Sam Houston State March 1 and Houston (conference champion, NCAA Tournament) March 4-6. BU returns home for games against Texas State March 8, New Mexico March 11 and 13, San Diego (conference champion) March 12 and begins Big 12 play vs. Texas Tech March 18-20 at Baylor Ballpark.
Baylor takes a break in conference action to play at UT Arlington March 22, home vs. Dallas Baptist (NCAA Tournament) March 24 and at DBU March 25-26, and home vs. UTSA March 29.
The rest of the Big 12 slate includes a home series against Kansas April 1-3, road set at Oklahoma April 8-10, home series vs. Oklahoma State (NCAA Tournament) April 15-17, road sets at Kansas State April 22-24 and West Virginia April 29-May 1, home series vs. TCU (conference champion, College World Series) May 13-15 and road set at Texas (conference champion, NCAA Tournament) May 19-21 to finish regular season play.
The rest of BU’s non-conference schedule features homes games vs. Wofford April 5-6, Lamar April 13, Sam Houston State April 19, Incarnate Word April 26, McNeese State May 10-11 and a road tilt at UTSA May 17.
The Big 12 Championship will be held in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark from May 25-29. NCAA Regionals will be held June 3-5, Super Regionals June 10-12, and the College World Series will take place June 18-29 in Omaha, Nebraska.
