NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – After leading the league in strikeouts and wins and ranking fourth in ERA, Laconia lefthander Tim Viehoff (Southern New Hampshire) has been named the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) Robin Roberts Top Starting Pitcher of the Year, as announced by the league on Friday.
Named after the late and legendary Robin Roberts, one of the greatest pitchers in the history of Major League Baseball, Viehoff enjoyed a stellar summer in Laconia this year and made his mark felt around the league. He finished with a 5-1 record and a 1.76 ERA while fanning a league-high 58 batters over 51 innings. His regular season WHIP was 0.920 and he limited opponents to a .153 batting average. He was named the starter for the 2015 NECBL All-Star Game, as well.
Viehoff didn’t allow an earned run until his fourth start and after going 20 innings before doing so; he started his summer with a bang, fanning 13 batters in his first start, a six-inning shutout en route to a 3-0 victory against Keene on June 6. The Derry, New Hampshire, product struck out at least five batters in in seven of his eight starts.
A rising junior at SNHU, Viehoff made eight appearances (six starts) and finished 4-1 with a 2.10 ERA for the Penmen. He struck out 41 in 30 innings and held opponents to a .181 batting average.
