Conrad Wozniak showed why he was named the 2015 America East Pitcher of the Year as he went seven strong innings scattering six hits while allowing only one run as the Retrievers picked up their first America East tournament victory in school history with a 9-5 win over Maine.
Leading the offense was Connor Hax who hit a second inning homer over the right field fence to give UMBC the early 2-0 lead. Also chipping in at the plate with a fine day was Anthony Gatto, who got on base all five times as he went 3-3 with two runs scored and two walks.
UMBC moves onto the Winner’s Bracket to face Stony Brook on Friday evening while Maine will face Hartford in an elimination game.
