So, what really happened this week? LSU continued with their great form by beating Mississippi State in a road series. As a result, they maintained the top spot in the NCBWA top 25 ranking. This means that for three weeks straight, they have remained No.1 in the ranking, the longest streak since Vandy started the season with three straight wins keeping them at the top. Louisville were among those who improved as they moved up one spot to position 2 after winning 2-1 that game week. This means that UCLA slipped back one spot into No.3 after a 2-2 draw in the week that also saw them lose to Long Beach State and a hard-fought win against the sub.500 Gonzaga. The Tigers and the Texas A&M remained in the positions they were last week; that is, fourth and fifth respectively.
Illinois moved up two spots to sixth after a successful road series win against Ohio State. Ohio State, Vandy and Florida jumped one spot apiece to complete the top 10 teams of the week. The biggest gainer of the week was the Arkanas who continued with their winning ways for 6 straight games. The Hogs win against the Alabama saw them move up 4 spots to sit at 20th in the standings.
Three other teams had a positive week after joining the top 25. Oregon State made a comeback to the rankings at position 22 after their road series win at Washington, marking their third straight win in the series. The other debuts at No.23 and No.25 were the Auburn and Radford respectively. This was the third straight series win with two of these wins being at South California. Radford redeemed themselves after a disappointing start to the year when they lost to The College of Charleston and Auburn. The win was the eighth consecutive series win as they beat James Madison 58-13.
Arizona State which was the biggest loser dropped five places to No. 11 from 6th. Apart from Miami and Southern California who swapped positions at 13th and 14th respectively, the rest of the top 25 remained the same this week.
LSU is expected to continue maintaining their lead given that the rankings show that Texas A&M and UCLA seem closer to eighth than first. The top ten battles are still far from over and more changes are expected this coming week and it will be exciting to see what happens.
