Middle Tennessee (16-10, 8-1) vs. Old Dominion (13-11, 3-6)
The Blue Raiders continued their hot streak to begin conference play by sweeping ODU over the weekend. They won the first game 7-2 with Jared Allen going 2-4 at the plate with a run and 2 RBI. They took the second game 8-2 as Jake Ingold was 2-4 with a run and 3 RBI. Then MTSU squeaked by 5-4 on Sunday for the sweep. Allen was 1-2 with 3 runs scored and an RBI.
UAB (17-9, 5-4) vs. Western Kentucky (13-13, 4-5)
The UAB Blazers got a much needed sweep over WKU this past weekend to put them back in the thick of the conference standings. They won the first game 2-1 as James Naile tossed 6.1 innings giving up 1 earned run on 5 hits and a walk, while Chase Davis and Griffin Gum knocked in the team’s only 2 runs. The won another 1-run game in game two, this one finished 6-5. Jeff Schalk had a big day at the plate going 3-3 with 2 home runs, 3 runs scored and 4 RBI. Johnny Lieske was solid on the mound only allowing 2 earned runs in 6.2 innings with 5 strikeouts. UAB cruised to a 7-1 victory on Sunday for the sweep. Davis was 2-5 with 2 runs and an RBI, and Nathan Vincent and Tyler Mims each had 2 RBI.
Florida Atlantic (22-6, 6-3) vs. UTSA (15-13, 5-4)
The Owls took the first game 10-4 thanks to Stephen Kerr who was 3-6 with a couple of runs scored, and Roman Collins who was 2-5 with a run and 3 RBI. The Road Runners blew out FAU in game two 14-3. Aaron Burns went this distance giving up 2 earned runs on 8 hits and 3 walks, while Tyler Straub was 2-5 at the plate with a home run, 2 runs and 4 RBI. The Owls took the series winning the third game 9-5. C.J. Chatham was 3-4 with a home run, 2 runs and 5 RBI. In the loss for UTSA C.J. Pickering was 3-5 with a home run, 3 runs and 3 RBI.
Marshall (8-18, 2-7) vs. Florida International (13-15, 5-4)
The Panthers took the first game 7-4 as Brian Portelli drove in 4 runs. Marshall won the second game of the series 5-4 with J.D. Hammer pitching 6 innings and giving up 2 earned runs on 4 hits and 3 walks, while at the plate D.J. Gee was 3-5 with 2 runs. FIU took the series with a 3-1 win in the finale. Christopher Mourelle tossed 8.1 innings giving up 1 earned run on 6 hits and 2 walks with 5 strikeouts.
La Tech (10-13, 1-7) vs. Charlotte (10-12, 4-8)
The 49ers had a big weekend as they swept the Bulldogs. They took the first game 5-0 as Sean Geoghegan tossed 7.2 scoreless innings giving up just 6 hits and a walk with 6 strikeouts. Zach Jarrett drove in 2 runs at the plate. They won the second game 9-5 as Brad Elwood was 2-5 with a run and 2 RBI, while Brent Diaz was 2-5 with 3 runs and an RBI. They completed the sweep with a 5-3 victory. Jarrett was 2-3 with a home run, 2 runs and 2 RBI.
Rice (19-11, 9-3) vs. Southern Miss (15-10, 4-4)
The Owls took the first two games of the series 6-3 and 11-4 respectively. Kevin McCanna was solid in game 1 going 7 innings and striking out eight batters. In the second game John Clay Reeves was 3-4 at the plate with a home run, 2 runs and 3 RBI, while Blake Fox gave up 3 earned runs over 7 innings with 7 strikeouts. The Golden Eagles picked up a win in the series finale 5-1. James McMahon didn’t allow an earned run over 7.1 innings and only issued 5 hits.
