UAB (10-7, 0-3) vs. MTSU (11-6, 3-0)
Game 1 – MTSU 8-0: MTSU got out to a good start and shutout UAB 8-0. Johnathan Frebis tossed 7 scoreless innings only allowing 4 hits and 2 walks with 8 strikeouts. Ronnie Jebavy was 3-3 with 2 runs, 2 RBI and 2 walks.
Game 2 – MTSU 3-0: In the second game Nate Hoffman helped shutout the Blazers in a 3-0 win for MTSU. Hoffman went 5 innings, allowing just 1 hit and 3 walks with 5 strikeouts. Jebavy was 2-3 at the plate with a run scored.
Game 3 – MTSU 3-2: MTSU completed the sweep with a 3-2 win. Brad Jarreau was 2-2 at the plate with a run scored. Jarred Allen had a run and an RBI, while Jake Ingold brought in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning.
UTSA (12-7, 3-0) vs. Marshall (8-9, 0-3)
Game 1 – UTSA, 2-0: Brock Hartson got it going allowing just 4 hits and 4 walks in 8.1 innings with 6 strikeouts. Trent Bowles was 3-4 and Geonte Jackson was 1-4 with an RBI. For Marshall, Andrew Dundon was 2-4 at the plate, while J.D. Hammer tossed 7 innings giving up just 5 hits and 3 walks with 5 strikeouts.
Game 2 – UTSA, 10-5: Bowles had another good day at the plate going 2-5 with 2 runs and 3 RBI, while Matt Hilston was 2-2 with 3 runs scored, an RBI and 2 walks. D.J. Gee was 3-5 with an RBI for Marshall.
Game 3 – UTSA, 16-8: The Road Runners completed the sweep with a big 16-8 victory. Aaron Burns came on in relief to pitch 6 innings without giving up an earned run, and only allowing 4 hits and a walk with 5 strikeouts. Jesse Baker was 2-4 with a home run, 2 runs and 6 RBI, while Matt Hilston was 2-4 with a home run, 2 runs and 3 RBI. T.J. Diffenderfer for Marshall was 3-5 at the plate with 2 RBI. Hilston finished the weekend going 4-10 with 2 home runs, 5 runs scored, 4 RBI, 2 walks and a stolen base.
La Tech (8-9, 0-3) vs. #10 Rice (15-6, 6-0)
Game 1 – Rice, 4-2: The Owls scored 3 runs in the eighth inning to come back and win game one of the series over La Tech. Kevin McCanna gave up 2 earned runs over 7 innings on 6 hits and a walk with 4 strikeouts. Leon Byrd walked twice and scored a run, and Ryan Chandler drove in a run. For La Tech, Tyler Clancy tossed 6.2 innings without giving up an earned run on 6 hits and 2 walks. Also for the Bulldogs, Chandler Hall drove in a run at the plate.
Game 2 – Rice, 8-7: Another tight game that the Owls were able to come out on top of as Ford Stainback was 3-5 with 2 runs scored and Charlie Warren drove in a pair of runs. Brent Diaz was 2-4 with 2 RBI for La Tech.
Game 3 – Rice, 9-2: Rice completed their second consecutive sweep to start Conference USA play with a 9-2 victory. John Clay Reeves was 3-4 with a run and 3 RBI and Tristan Gray drove in 3 runs as well. On the mound for the Owls Austin Orewiler tossed 6 innings giving up just 2 earned runs on 5 hits and 4 walks. Hall was 2-3 at the plate for La Tech with a run and 2 walks.
Southern Miss (11-7-1, 2-1) vs. Florida International (9-11, 1-2)
Game 1 – FIU, 9-1: Edwin Rios went 2-3 with a run and 3 RBI, and J.C. Escarra was 2-5 with a run and 2 RBI for FIU. On the mound Cody Crouse gave up 1 earned run over 7 innings on 5 hits and 3 walks. Christian Talley was good in the loss for Southern Miss not allowing an earned run over 7 innings with 5 strikeouts. Connor Barron was 2-2 with 2 walks and a run for Southern Miss.
Game 2 – USM, 7-3: Barron kept things going in the second game of the series picking up three more hits and he scored a couple of runs. Taylor Braley was 2-4 with 2 RBI, and Cody Carroll gave up 1 earned run on 7 hits and 3 walks over 7 innings with 8 strikeouts.
Game 3 – USM, 10-0: The Golden Eagles won the series in convincing fashion with a 10-0 victory. James McMahon tossed 7 scoreless innings allowing just 4 hits and 3 walks with 2 strikeouts. Daniel Keating was 3-4 with 2 runs and 4 RBI at the plate for Southern Miss.
Old Dominion (8-7, 1-2) vs. Western Kentucky (9-9, 2-1)
Game 1 – ODU, 3-1: The Monarchs picked up their first conference win of the season 3-1 over Conference USA newcomer Western Kentucky. Taylor Ostrich was 3-4 with a run and an RBI, while Greg Tomchick gave up 1 earned run over 7 innings on a hit and a walk with 9 strikeouts. Anderson Miller hit a solo home run for Western Kentucky.
Game 2 – WKU, 6-3: The Hilltoppers bounced back in the second game to get their first ever Conference USA win. Miller picked up his second home run of the weekend going 3-5 at the plate with 3 runs and an RBI.
Game 3 – WKU, 9-5: Miller once again got it going for the Hilltoppers on offense as he was 2-4 with 2 runs and an RBI. Ryan Church was 3-4 with a run and 3 RBI. For ODU, Derek Francis was 2-4 with a home run and 2 RBI. Miller finished the weekend going 6-12 with 2 home runs, 6 runs scored, 3 RBI and 2 walks.
#20 Florida Atlantic (18-3, 3-0) vs. Charlotte (4-9, 0-6)
Game 1 – 8-3, FAU: Kyle Miller allowed just 2 earned runs over 7.2 innings on 8 hits with 6 strikeouts. Esteban Puerta was 2-3 at the plate with 2 runs and an RBI.
Game 2 – FAU, 18-7: The bats heated up in the second game as the Owls clinched the series with an 18-7 victory. Ricky Santiago was 3-5 with 4 runs and an RBI, while Roman Collins was 2-5 with 3 runs and 2 RBI. Brad Elwood was 2-5 with a run and 3 RBI for Charlotte.
Game 3 – FAU, 5-1. The Owls completed the sweep with a 5-1 win thanks to 5 shutout innings from Drew Jackson who only allowed 2 hits and a walk with 5 strikeouts. Stephen Kerr was 4-5 with a run scored and Brendon Sanger drove in two runs. Josh Maciejewski had a solid outing on the mound for Charlotte allowing just 3 earned runs in 8 innings on 7 hits and 3 walks with 6 strikeouts.
